The Selkirk Steelers just participated in the Mens Grand Championships in Merlin on the weekend of August 9-10. They came out with a strong start winning their first game 10-0 Saturday morning. They then went on to face Harwood Corners and came up just short losing 3-2 late in the game. This loss put the Steelers in the losing bracket and up against Hickson for their third game. With lots of rain delays in this one the Steelers had a hard time getting into the game but were able to come away with the 1-0 win. Saturday morning saw the Steelers facing off against the Fisherville A's. The Steelers started out strong with 3 runs in the first inning and were able to keep up the good work heading to a 5-2 victory over their fellow Erie League competetors. This put Selkirk in the semi-final game against Harwood Corners again. After a few errors in the first inning the Steelers were a bit lucky to only be down 1-0. Later in the game the Steelers would rally for 3 runs in the 4th to put them ahead. Unfortunately the Steelers couldn't hold them off forever allowing them to score in the bottom of the 6th giving Harwood a 5-3 lead. This proved to be the fianl score as the Steelers were beat out of the tourny after a hard fought game that could have went either way.
